About Me

Brianna is an 18-year-old actor, poet, filmmaker, and mental health advocate who is dedicated to cultivating safe spaces for connection. The Youth EmpwowHERment Sleepover is the product of Brianna’s own mental health journey. Through this conference, she hopes to foster the seeds of self-love within each girl to help them move forward as the best versions of themselves.

Hi friends!

I’m so excited you’re interested in attending the Youth EmpowHERment Sleepover (YES!) Five years ago, I found myself going through a really difficult time mentally. At the beginning of my mental health and recovery journey, I discovered two things: therapy and a conference. While either hasn’t “cured me” or solved everything, both have drastically improved my life. Now, I know myself better than I ever have before, and when things change on the inside, they change on the outside too. I was able to improve my quality of life just by getting to know myself a little more.

The conference I attended was incredible but it was created for older participants. At 13, I was the youngest attendee and some of the topics were mature for my age. This is what gave me the idea for the Youth EmpowHERment Sleepover. I wanted younger girls to have access to the same resources that enlightened and encouraged me, but in an age-appropriate way, with content geared towards issues that were more closely related to girls my age. So when I got home I immediately started working on creating this event - a giant sleepover.
Though this conference was born, in some ways, through my struggle with mental health -  please don’t think you have to be in crisis to benefit from it. These workshops offer encouraging stories and practical advice that is applicable to all of us, every day. Hopefully, it’ll prevent one of you from experiencing what I went through. I want to encourage girls to live as authentically as possible. I’ve seen so many teens trying to be something they’re not, in an effort to hide from themselves or to fit in with others. I know first-hand what stigma and the pressure to conform feels like - it can damage your self-esteem and lead you to make choices that force you to sacrifice who you are at the core. At the Youth EmpowHERment Sleepover, we want everyone to show up exactly as they are. Here, the goal is to be yourself, as loudly as possible. You do not have to hide.

Fostering positive mental health is a lifelong effort. I still have so much work to do, but I’ve learned to celebrate exactly who I am - the way I look, the way I think, and the way I live in the world. There is room for you too.

I’ve worked with the YES team and the Getting Thru podcast to create an amazing experience for you. We’ve partnered with mental health professionals, girl-centric organizations, and wellness experts to create informative and entertaining workshops. Over the course of the weekend, you’ll have chances to put your workshop learning into practice as you discover new truths about yourself, set your future goals, and make new friends. And, of course, there will be a Saturday night party: it wouldn’t be the ultimate sleepover without one!

I just have three requests from the YES participants:
1. RESPECT THE SAFE ZONE – We are providing a safe place to share, learn, and grow. That means no ego, no judgment, and no drama! We won’t tolerate any gossip, bullying, or peer exclusion. From the beginning, we are a community.
2. BE AUTHENTIC – The only way to get the most from this experience and to really grow is to be open and honest, even a little vulnerable. Trust me - it works.

3. HAVE FUN -  Discovering everything wonderful you have to offer this world can be so much fun. Improving your relationship with yourself, making new friends, and participating in the activities will bring you so much joy.
I can’t wait to meet you! Xoxo
